I will be posting articles throughout 2013 to 2015 reviewing Virginia Woolf’s nine novels with reference to her life and times. I will be consulting her published diaries – abridged and edited by Anne Olivier Bell, and introduced by Quentin Bell – to provide background knowledge about her writing. When she died in 1941 she left thirty volumes of diaries written between 1915 and the year of her death. Tackling these would be counterproductive because primarily we want to explore her novels. Other books I will use include: “Virginia Woolf: A Biography” by Quentin Bell, and “Virginia Wolf” by Hermione Lee. I will also include my own photographs of the places Virginia knew well – the Bloomsbury area, Tavistock Square, Hogarth House in Richmond, Monks House and Charleston in Sussex, Knole and Sissinghurst.
Guest writers and friends will be invited to write articles giving their opinions as the project unfolds. Details about that to follow.
